The film's pertinent and passionate storyline has captured the imagination and hearts of everyone who comes into contact with it.
"Big Society - The Musical" Is a stark piece of social realism that is set in Liverpool. An emotional and hard-hitting personal drama set against the backdrop of the current cuts. The story is centred on Linda, a sympathetic woman in her late 40s who works with young offenders. After losing her job because of the pending closure of the centre where she works, Linda tries desperately to help Connor, the 14-year-old boy she has been working with, risking her relationship, her home and her reputation in the process. The gritty personal drama is in contrast with magical and even surreal musical numbers that deal with wider issues that face contemporary society.
The process and the journey so far...
The process has been unconventional, organic, ironic and inspiring.
What began as an idea back in January 2011, by Director Lynne Harwood, has grown momentum and quickly evolved into a city wide creative collaboration with arts organisations, local talent and communities across the city all keen to get on board. The feature length script was created working in collaboration with a team of exceptional local Liverpool writers over a 7 month period and gained instant support from Liverpool creatives such as lead actress Paula Simms, musical director and singer Jenny John of Sense of Sound, and established composer Andy Frizell.
Behind the Scenes at Awsome Walls with the young offenders getting to grips with the opening scene and talking about their roles and back stories in the film.
The team has been using improvisation to generate truthful and insightful dialogue and the film is evolving and growing with every scene.
